After six years of tertiary education and numerous part-time positions within sport and recreation, Daniel secured an ideal full time role within local government in November 2010.
Away from work, Daniel has 18 years of cricket experience under his belt and has coached and served on committees at numerous clubs. He also plays baseball in winter and is again a member of the club committee.
Sport and recreation is an obvious interest for Daniel and his articles reflect that, especially his knowledge of cricket and football.
The owner, manager and editor in chief of Pen & Paper Sports, Daniel hopes to see the site grow from strength to strength in the future.
Once again, it’s been a MASSIVE few weeks of sport... Footy, Cricket, Rugby, Soccer, Baseball, Baseketball, Netball etc... The list goes on! Let’s see who’s hot and who’s not:
Who’s Hot?
Essendon Bombers (AFL) – The Bombers were expected to be 3 & 0 after wins against North Melbourne, Port Adelaide and Gold Coast, however their wins weren’t overly convincing. However, despite an injury-hit list, the Dons came out and smashed arch-rival and premiership favourite Carlton to maintain their winning streak. With a favourable draw, wins like this will see them push for Top 4, not just make the Top 8.
Sydney Swans (AFL) – Another of the undefeated sides after Round 4 and like Essendon, it was probably unexpected. The Swans also have a generous draw and look certain to push to the Top 4.
Washington Nationals (MLB) – The traditionally poor Nationals have start the new season with a bang and find themselves 12 & 4 and on top of NL East. The Phillies are struggling in this division and an upset looms...
San Antonio Spurs (NBA) – 6 wins in a row and they’re stormed to the top of Western Conference. They’ve hit form at the right time of the season... Bring on the playoffs!
Brisbane Roar (A-League) – Yes, it was a terrible finish to the A-League season after a debatable penalty was awarded, however the Roar fully deserved their second consecutive premiership.
Melbourne Vixens (ANZ Championship) – The Vixens have started the 2012 season with a bang, recording 4 wins from their first 4 games.
Who’s Not?
Melbourne Demons (AFL) – 4 games, 4 losses and it’s really starting to get ugly. Lucky GWS are in the competition this year, they might actually win a game. Then again...
Boston Red Sox (MLB) – Just when things looked like they couldn’t get worse... They did. 4 & 10 to start the season and they’ve lost their last 5. In addition to that, they threw away a 9-0 lead today against the Yankees and lost 15-9. It’s hard to see them coming back from this...
Kansas City Royals (MLB) – 3 & 11 is a disgusting start to the season, especially after it was 3 & 2. 9 loses in a row and they’re already a long way back. Bring on 2013?
Charlotte Bobcats (NBA) – 19 losses in a row and a season record of 7 & 55... They look certain to become the worst team in NBA history.
Waikato/Bay of Plenty Magic (ANZ Championship) – The Magic have finished 2nd, 3rd, 2nd and 3rd in the history of the competition, however this year have dropped their first 4. A tough season awaits...
Deccan Chargers (IPL) – The Chargers have started the 2012 IPL very poorly, losing their first 4 games. Given it’s a tight competition this year, they may still sneak through if they improve, however it needs to happen immediately.
